Coachella Valley Water District - Rebate Programs
Making every drop count since 1918

Process Guidelines

Verify your Coachella Valley Water District account

To begin the process, you must first validate your agency account. To do this, you will need your Coachella Valley Water District account number and the zip code of the service address.

Register for your program account

In the profile you will provide a current email address, contact information, and phone number. You can then view the progress of your project through the Dashboard, as well as view resources on completing it. To complete the registration process, you will need access to the email address that you provided.

Confirm your email address

After creating your online account, you will be emailed a link that will be used to verify your account. Once received, click the provided link and set your new password to begin.

Take the online assessment

In order to prepare you for the steps ahead, you will next complete the online assessment, which takes about 30 minutes. But don't worry... we have an online study guide to help you better understand the process.

Submit your project details

In this step you will answer a few questions regarding your project and how it will be completed.

Create project zones

You will next create project zones (areas you will be converting). For each zone, you will provide the location, approximate square feet of turf you are removing, and at least one color image representing the current state of the project area before you convert it. These pictures will be used as a project reference.

Upload your plans and plant lists

Now it’s time to upload your plans along with the plant list, and/or permeable material list. Please note:  HOA approval must be granted prior to submission for a CVWD rebate.  Review and agree to the Terms and Conditions and submit your application.  You’ve done it!  You’ve completed all of the steps and your application is submitted.  The Coachella Valley Water District will contact you to schedule your pre-site inspection. You can submit rebate applications to remove up to a total of 10,000 square feet per program year (July 1-June 30).

Convert your lawn and receive your incentive payment!

After you have completed the online assessment, submitted your application, photos and plan, the Coachella Valley Water District will contact you to schedule a pre-site inspection.  Customers will receive written notification by email if you are approved to begin your project.  You will have 90 days to complete your project from the date of written notification.

When your project is done, you will need to submit photos of each project area included in your application.  Your completed project will include a minimum of 25% plant canopy per the approved CVWD plans, unless you were approved for artificial turf.  CVWD will contact you for your post-conversion inspection. Once we have all the needed documentation that you have met the requirements of the program and the landscape was completed according to the design we approved, CVWD will send you an email approving the project. Your rebate check will be mailed to the property owner’s mailing or billing address within 90 days.

Maintain your new landscape

Enjoy your new water-efficient desert landscaping!  The converted landscape must be maintained for a minimum of five years as a grass or lawn-free zone.
